Scientific interests

My current work aims at a better understanding of the mechanisms and functions of brain rhythms. In particular, I am interested in oscillations observed in the olfactory system :

  • respiration-related rhythm (from 2Hz to 10Hz in rats)
  • faster rhythms in the gamma (40Hz-90Hz) and in the beta (15Hz-30Hz) ranges.

Previous experiments in our team have shown that these oscillations are modulated by animal state, odor properties and experience. I use various theoretical and analysis tools to explore experimental data from our team related to olfactory oscillations.

Besides, more punctually, my theoretical and analytical background leads me to bring some original point of view and new analysis tools in different team projects.

Current-source density (CSD) analysis of olfactory rhythms in the olfactory bulb (with Nathalie Buonviso)

Modeling of the alternance between gamma and beta oscillations in the olfactory bulb (with François David, CRNL, Lyon)

Analysis of functional connectivity between olfactory structures in behaving rats during learning of odor-guided task (data from Laura Lefèvre, collaboration with Nicolas Garnier and Stéphane Roux, ENS Lyon)

Study of the link between mitral cell intracellular oscillations and extracellular oscillations in olfactory bulb (with Corine Amat, data from Virginie Briffaud)

Short bio

1997-2001 : Student at the Ecole Normal Supérieure (ENS Paris) in mathematics and physics

2000-2003 : PhD thesis in the Neurophysics laboratory (supervisor : Nicolas Brunel)

2003-2005 : Postdoctoral fellow with Nathan Urban (CMU, Pittsburgh, USA) and Bard Ermentrout (Pittsburgh University, USA)

2006-present : CNRS permanent researcher
